On this project we got to repair a deck which was poorly built with an inadequate amount of structural members. Much of the original framing was also badly damaged. However we got to salvage much of the original material to offer a budget friendly deck repair. We replaced ledger boards, rim boards, joists, and deck boards.
Joist hangers are not optional where joists meet rim-boards. We also made sure to use galvanized fasteners.
Truth is, the deck was built all wrong. We had to install rim boards, joists and ledger before we could reinstall decking.
