Concrete Steps Skimcoat and Repair

Wouldn’t it be great if concrete steps lasted forever?! Of course, but that doesn’t happen. From time to time, we have to perform some maintenance and eventually even replace completely. But, sometimes a skimcoat on our concrete steps is all it takes to make them look like new.

Old Concrete Steps

On this particular job, we are removing the top step completely. If you look closely at the above picture you’ll see a deep crack on the riser or face of the top stair. A crack like this would quickly reappear if it was hidden with a skimcoat. So, we are demoing it out, forming up a replacement, installing rebar and pouring a new top step. Afterwards, we are applying a skimcoat to all the concrete steps for uniformity.

We are taking two days to complete this small project. On the first day we are removing the top step and replacing it. And on the following day, we are applying the skimcoat to the entire staircase. The top step has damage and has been patched before. But the only way to repair it for good is to replace it completely.

Upon the customer’s request we also cemented smooth a trip hazard on the adjacent sidewalk at no extra charge.
