In this post, we are installing vinyl siding to a rear patio enclosure that was converted into a breakfast area.
Ok, so obviously we had to do some demolition and some reframing of the structure. And to be fair, we could have also installed the siding without altering the structure. But, we also wanted to install three new windows, and we needed to insulate that exterior wall. French doors leading into the kitchen from the rear porch were also removed making the insulation that much more necessary.
Furthermore, OSB sheathing and house wrap were also installed over the new frame.
So, now we can begin to install the vinyl siding from the bottom up. And what do you know, if you look closely you’ll notice that the starter strip from the previous installation is still intact. We actually left that on purpose to make the new installation easier. As long as the old strip is in good condition it can definitely be re-utilized.
When we get to the windows we will have to install j-channel and undersill trim to ensure that any water does not get behind siding. And wow! Just like that, we are done. This is a very beautiful transformation.
