In this post we are installing new vinyl plank flooring in a kitchen and breakfast area. Sometimes it may be necessary to install a special underlayment. For this particular floor application it is not required.
So, we begin in the breakfast nook and work our way into the kitchen with the vinyl plank flooring. Before we began, we had to make sure that our underlayment was nice and flat. And that it was also free of any uneven joints. It was actually a bit uneven at the opening that leads from one room to the other. We took care of that with some floor patch. And we made sure to smooth it over nice and level with the rest of floor.
And we are making progress! We make sure to leave a quarter-inch gap around the perimeter. This allows for the floor to swell and contract without buckling up. It is a good idea to set shims or spacers around the edges to maintain the short distance.
And look at that! A beautiful new floor for a great price! Make sure to select a finish that will match the surroundings. In this case the gray wood flooring matches perfectly with the gray and white kitchen background.
“The name is true! Honest people. Quality work. I highly recommend!”
