Vinyl Privacy Fence Installation

Circumstances are not always ideal. I mean, site conditions can’t always be favorable. And, on this particular job, they were far from it. Here, we were tasked with installing a vinyl privacy fence on a steeply and unevenly sloped piece of land. And if that wasn’t enough we also had to ensure that there were no areas in the fence where the clients’ toy breed dog could escape beneath.

So, first we selected the best location for the gate. Then, we marked the layout for the first post and began to dig. We must always dig down deep enough for our footings to sit just beneath the frost line. This will ensure that the fence will not be shifted up and down with the freeze and thaw of the ground as the seasons change year after year.

Keep in mind, vinyl fencing is very unlike wood fencing. Vinyl panels come in one size and cannot be modified on the job site. Consequently, there is little to no room for error. And therefore, we must dig and set one post at a time. Normally, with privacy fencing we’d set the two end-posts and run a string line from the two. However, in this case, we must set up batter-boards to make for a straight-lined fence. If you sight down the outer edge of the gate-post, you’ll see a perfectly straight fence-line.
