New Parking Blocks Installation

Parking Blocks

This commercial job was in the parking lot of a Family Dollar. It was a very small task really. In the pictures that follow, you can see the debris of what used to be two concrete parking blocks, also known as parking stops or parking curbs.

These parking blocks or parking curbs can take quite a beating. In fact, they were created just for that purpose. Also known as parking bumpers, they protect structures and vehicles from vehicular impact. However, they absorb impact after impact from our vehicles’ rubber tires which are carrying tons of weight.

But, as you can see in the above slideshow, they don’t last forever. These two particular parking blocks were at the end of a row in the parking lot. But they weren’t painted brightly and therefore not very visible, especially at night. My bet is that drivers pulling into the business, especially those in a rush, were running straight into these curbs without ever even touching their brakes. Thus, the pulverized parking stops in the slideshow pictures.

The first step here was to clean up the debris from the old beat up parking bumpers and dispose of legally. Next we ran string lines to get on the same planes as the other bumpers in the rows. We marked out the locations for the new stops and then drilled our anchor holes.

Finally, we set the anchors and bumpers in place and then bolt them down tightly.
