On this job, we are going to be building a brand new wood deck. It is going to be constructed of pressure-treated lumber. In all, it will consist of a fourteen by four foot deck at the front entry door and an L-shaped staircase with a landing midway. We’re also going to install some cute little solar-light post-caps, which add character. Ok now, let’s go!
So first things first, let’s remove the existing steps. Because they are very old and hazardous and they definitely do not meet code requirements.
After removing the steps completely, we have to seal up the opening under the porch and we can also begin setting the footings for our columns. First, we lay out our footings and begin excavating for them while also framing and sheathing the opening under porch. Afterwards, we pour the concrete footings and also install lap-siding over the sheathing.
Once the footings have set, we can then begin setting our columns which will be supporting the beams that will support the joists. We will also install the ledger board that anchors the deck to the frame of the home. And after the columns have been plumbed and the beams properly fastened to the columns, we begin installing the rim boards. Next, we install the joists at 16″ on center using approved joist-hangers and Joist-hanger nails.

And before we start on the stairs, we can’t forget to build our landings. There will be one midway and one at the bottom of the stairs. Afterwards, we can begin installing our stair stringers. And meanwhile that is being taken care of, the guardrail posts will also be cut to height and lag-bolted to the deck frame. Once the posts are attached, we will fasten the guardrails and install the evenly spaced spindles.
Next, we install the stair risers and treads. And call the building department to schedule the inspection.
As soon as we get approval we will be heading back to the site to install the decking, skirting and the post-caps.
And sure enough, we’ve been approved! In no time at all, we are on-site installing the decking and the skirting.
“The name is true! Honest people. Quality work. I highly recommend!”

And finally, we put on the solar-light post-caps to give it the finishing touch.
“Miguel and his team have done a lot of work for us and it was done professionally and timely. I don’t think there is anything around the house they can’t handle….I would highly recommend them!”
